If you’ve been trying to lose weight and aren’t seeing the results you were actually looking for, you’re not alone. Many women are finding they’re doing everything right, eating the right foods, exercising regular, making sure they’re drinking enough water….and they’re still not seeing the results they’re looking for. If you’re bloated or just can’t seem to shed those excess pounds, there might be something else to blame.

Although we often think of “different” parts of the body, it’s really an intricately connected system. And if something is imbalanced in one part, you’re surely going to see it manifest in another. Reasons you’re doing everything right, but still not losing weight could might have something to do with the following.

1. Thyroid issues

Thyroid issues are huge. It’s estimated that some 30 million Americans have problems with their thyroid, an issue that’s quickly becoming commonplace. According to Anthony William,  thyroid issues are a result of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), an illness that when understood can help tremendously with those struggling with thyroid problems.  One of the main functions of the thyroid is metabolism. An underactive thyroid can cause weight gain…even if you’re eating all the right foods.

2. Heavy Metals

Like most toxins, heavy metals tend to accumulate in the body if proper care isn’t taken to get rid of them. Common heavy metals (think mercury and lead) disrupt hormone function, which is something that can quickly lead to unwarranted weight gain. Removing heavy metals from the body through detox and diet however, can help a person overcome their weight issues caused by heavy metals.

3. Genetic mutations

A study conducted by professionals at Harvard Medical School found that a genetic mutation (in gene Mrap2) is linked to metabolic issues that cause severe obesity. This gene is responsible for regulating not only metabolism, but food consumption as well. While this genetic mutation is only found in less than one percent of the obese population, researchers believe there may be other mutations in this gene that could be more common and part of the cause of more common cases of obesity.

4. Bacteria

Our gut health plays a serious role in our overall health, weight gain issues included. This is because gut bacteria alter the way we store fat. And people that tend to have problems losing weight also tend to have less healthy bacteria in the gut. For example, thin people have shown to have a more diverse quantity of healthy gut bacteria. Consequently, a diet that is made up of mostly processed foods is linked to a less diverse colony of gut bacteria.

5. Fungus

Candida, which is more commonly known as yeast, can lead to some serious medical problems…weight gain included. Candida overgrowth is known to cause issues with the thyroid, which is directly linked to a hormone imbalance responsible for weight gain. It’s also linked to fluid retention, which can also make it difficult to lose weight.

6. Parasites

Another issue that makes it impossible to lose weight is the likelihood of parasites present in the system. Increased exposure to parasites through polluted water and soil, international travel, improper hygiene, exotic foods, and more can all lead to a build-up of parasites in the body. A 2006 study showed that parasite-infected dragonflies show the same metabolic dysfunction as people with obesity and type-2 diabetes.

Understanding Why You’re Still Gaining Weight….And Taking the Steps to Change It

Understanding weight gain issues can make it easier to figure out exactly what is causing you to continue to gain weight, even though you think you’re doing everything to avoid it. Knowledge is power, and having a clear understanding of your body is vital when it comes to taking care of it.

When you know what’s wrong, it makes it a lot easier to take care of what’s going on. Although it can be really frustrating to deal with weight issues when you think you’re eating good, it could be as simple as something off balance in your system.

If you’re eating things you think you should and still gaining weight, you might want to think about getting your thyroid checked for any signs of over activity. A healthy detox also might be in order to remove any heavy metals present in your precious system. Knowing what’s wrong is half the battle. Because when you do, almost everything can be taken care of through the right diet and regular exercise.
